have mercy on our souls

Today I mourn the recent decision by Barack Obama to allow federally funded embryonic stem cell research.

"When it comes to stem cell research, rather than furthering discovery, our government has forced what I believe is a false choice between sound science and moral values. In this case, I believe the two are not inconsistent. As a person of faith, I believe we are called to care for each other and work to ease human suffering."
~Barack Obama, March 2009

"For You created my inmost being;
You knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise You because I am fearfully and
wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful,
I know that full well. My frame was not hidden
from You when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths
of the earth, Your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me were written
in Your book before one of them came to be".
~Psalms 139: 13-16 [NIV]

An embryo is a human life.  Are we not also called to care for and ease the suffering of the unborn?

God have mercy on our souls.
